Parallel structure.

Using matching grammatical forms for ideas that play the same role in a sentence or list.

Useful when a list feels uneven or difficult to scan.

“Use parallel structure in the checklist: begin each action with a verb.”

A closer look

“Collect the files, validate the names, and export the archive” gives each step the same shape. Consistent forms help readers compare equivalent items. Preserve the actual meaning rather than forcing unlike ideas into a misleading pattern.

Put it to work

“Make these headings parallel so each names an action at the same level of detail.”

A useful distinction

Parallel structure concerns grammatical form. It does not mean running tasks at the same time.
